Setting Goals For Your Future

Setting goals is a great way to get motivated and keep yourself on track. But sometimes, it can be hard to know where to start. Listed below are a few things to keep in mind when setting up the goals you want to achieve in life. The best time to start working towards your goals is now.

What do You personally want to accomplish?

This is the first question to ask yourself when setting your goals. What do you want out of life? What is your vision for the future? This can be a difficult question to answer, especially if you have never thought about the future before. Brainstorm, and write your ideas down.

What do You want to accomplish? What are the parts of your life that you want to work on and deem most important? Remember, your goals should be what you really want and not dependent on what others believe they should be/desire you.

Have an action plan: Break down your goals into smaller steps

When setting goals, it's important to keep in mind that the overall goal is not all-encompassing, but rather something that can be broken down into smaller parts (or even one small part). Don’t try to do everything all at once, trust me, it can get overwhelming fast.

Break down your main goals into smaller steps and write it all down. You can use a calendar or planner to estimate when these steps can be completed. Not only does this help you remember them, but it also serves as an accountability tool. Eventually, these smaller steps will lead to big change. Accomplishing your goal is in reach.

Avoid Perfectionism

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when setting goals is to be overly perfectionistic. Perfectionism is a form of self-sabotage that can lead to procrastination. It can be paralyzing

You are going to make mistakes along the way no matter what you do. It happens—we all have bad days; we all make mistakes and sometimes things don't go according to plan. Don't beat yourself up about these things—it will only serve as an additional distraction from your actual goals (and it will also make life harder). Instead of beating yourself up over what happened last week, focus on what you can do better this week. Don’t give Up!
