Take Action: Discover Your Inner Confidence

Updated: Jul 9, 2022

The year is halfway over, and for many of us 2022 has not been “our year”. Nevertheless, we still have time to change that. Build your self-confidence! With courage, you can end this year on a high note, on a positive one.

Positive Life Change can happen, you just have to take the first step. Even when others argue over when the best time to act is, the best time to change your life is Now! Change requires courage, it requires the ability to be confident with your surroundings and more importantly with yourself. Confidence. What is confidence? I believe “confidence” is an action. It is portraying yourself in your most authentic way without the worries of what others may or may not think.

Embrace discomfort

“Confidence is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.” You need to give yourself opportunities to strengthen this confidence, which requires you to step out of your comfort zone. Growth occurs in areas of discomfort. Although you may experience internal fear and insecurity, it is during these moments of discomfort that you can take the steps to embrace your more confident self.

Avoid Perfectionism

No one is perfect and perfection is something that should not be strived towards. It may seem logical that if someone works hard enough, they then avoid making mistakes although, hence become confident. This is simply not true, however.

As Brené Brown states in The Gifts of Imperfection

“Perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be your best. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth. Perfectionism is the belief that if we live perfect, look perfect, and act perfect, we can minimize or avoid the pain of blame, judgment, and shame. It’s a shield. Perfectionism is a twenty-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it’s the thing that’s really preventing us from taking flight. It’s stopping us from being seen.”

Making mistakes is a part of life, it allows us to learn and develop into our most courageous selves.

Don't let others dictate your self-worth

Now, I know this is a lot easier said than done. Your confidence, however, relies much more on how you perceive yourself compared to how others do. Self-love and acceptance is what sets the sturdy foundation to build your confidence. Establish healthy boundaries with others. You are the only one who dictates your own worth.
